Research Engineer Intern - Dublin

Your Role:

Tenable Research is looking for a Research Engineer Intern for the Asset Detection and Vulnerability Detection teams. This position will involve researching existing vulnerabilities, looking for new ones, and fingerprinting techniques for operative systems and software, including network protocols. You will also develop checks/plugins to detect these vulnerabilities.


Your Opportunity:

  • Diagnose, research, reproduce and mitigate defects as part of the Tenable Research and Development team
  • Develop plugins for the Nessus vulnerability scanner based on research findings
  • Research methods of detection for currently unsupported services and products
  • Research newly published vulnerabilities and security advisories in order to determine safe and reliable methods of detection and exploitation
  • Perform original research by looking for vulnerabilities in popular software

 

What You'll Need:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, Information Technology, or CS
  • Understanding of common security vulnerabilities, detection and exploitation techniques
  • Experience working with multiple operating systems (proficiency with Linux a must)
  • Knowledge on the operation and management of Network Services
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills, the ability to learn from doing, personal accountability, and a positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work within a virtualized lab environment
  • Analysis of Network Capture Files with tools such as Wireshark, Bro

 

And ideally:

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, PowerShell, JavaScript) is a plus
  • Knowledge of exploit development techniques
  • Database technologies and SQL knowledge (Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL, etc.)
  • Some reverse engineering experience including basic binary analysis, packet capture analysis, and firmware analysis (using binwalk)
  • Pursuing a MSc degree or PhD in Cyber Security
