Corporate Counsel

Dublin | Ireland

The Opportunity:

Tenable Network Security Ireland Limited is looking to hire a highly-qualified, motivated, organised, and self-starting Corporate Counsel capable of working autonomously to support the business functions of Tenable.  This person will serve as lead in-house lawyer for Tenable’s EMEA and APAC operations and will be located in Dublin. The Corporate Counsel will work collaboratively with legal department staff based in the United States as well as cross functionally with other corporate departments and sales staff situated throughout the world. This person’s responsibilities will initially primarily involve drafting and negotiating software licenses and SaaS contracts with Tenable’s customers and suppliers. Given the nature of in-house work at Tenable, the Corporate Counsel will perform other legal tasks as required, which may include compliance work, employment law issues, intellectual property, maintaining records, legal research, and miscellaneous assignments.  Successful candidates should be able to advise and guide internal clients with diplomacy and authority.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Corporate Counsel will be heavily involved with technology contracts on a day-to-day basis and will be required to undertake the following:
    • reviewing and drafting template agreements for use in respect of Tenable’s products and services;
    • negotiating contracts with customers, partners and suppliers, involving software, SaaS services, hardware and professional services; and
    • reviewing leases as required.

Basic familiarity with US law and experience with channel distribution models is advantageous, but not a requirement.

  • The Corporate Counsel may be responsible for ensuring Tenable’s compliance with legal obligations, including, but not limited to:
    • assisting on employment and immigration issues;
    • monitoring and providing analyses of evolving legal requirements, rules, codes of practice and new legislation;
    • translating new legal and regulatory requirements into appropriate compliance policy requirements and providing training where required; and
    • providing guidance on European privacy rules and GDPR compliance.

Experience with export control issues pertaining to encryption is a plus but not required.

  • The Corporate Counsel will perform miscellaneous tasks as required, including the following:
    • monitoring progress of work by counsel and other external advisors, including reviewing of bills;
    • managing storage and record keeping of contracts;
    • serving as “clearing house” for Tenable’s legal issues which involves assisting in the determination of which matters are to be handled internally and those for which external counsel need to be engaged;
    • reviewing corporate communications from a legal perspective; and
    • performing other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:  

  • Qualified lawyer licensed to practice law in Ireland, with a detailed knowledge of Irish law.
  • Minimum of 3 - 6 PQE, preferably combined law firm and in-house experience and highly regarded law firm training.
  • Previous in-house experience in a similar role in a technology company highly advantageous, but not a requirement.
  • Degree from an accredited third level institution / university with a strong academic record.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.  Other languages may be beneficial, but are not required.
  • Team player and attitude that no job is too big or too small.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high activity environment.
  • Experience working with high-growth/pre-IPO technology companies preferred.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, including ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams and various levels of employees, including senior executives.
  • Experience advising clients about legal risks, negotiation strategies, and proposed courses of action to mitigate risk.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, business acumen and judgment, strategic legal thinking, initiative, attention to detail and ability to work independently are a must.
  • An effective communicator at all levels in the organisation, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and strong desire to work in a dynamic environment.
