Compensation Analyst

Reston | Virginia | United States

Your Role:

The Compensation Specialist reports directly to the Senior Compensation Manager and leads the implementation of compensation programs that support strategic and operational goals, ensuring all programs are effective and aligned with the overall compensation philosophy. Duties include day-to-day compensation administration; conducting job analysis, developing job descriptions, grading, benchmarking, completing salary surveys, annual administration of merit and salary offers. The Compensation Analyst will also optimize and administer the annual merit pay planning process and Quarterly Bonus program.

Your Opportunity:

  • Administer compensation programs to includes base, bonus, and sales plans; prepare and maintain company salary structure, job documentation, and job evaluation systems.
  • Coordinate the annual merit process/projects including developing communication, determining eligibility, reviewing recommended increases, bonuses, budgeting and employee notification.
  • Administer and recommend compensation strategies in support of recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Review and evaluate new and revised positions. Determine appropriate salary grade assignment and FLSA status. Recommend appropriate salary, grade and title, and work with HR Business Partners to discuss compensation recommendations.
  • Design job descriptions in accordance with department standards. Ensure current job descriptions are acquired/maintained for current and new staff. Ensure obsolete job descriptions are filed for historical purposes.  
  • Oversee the job classification process and salary recommendations ensuring internal equity and market alignment by applying standard job evaluation methodologies.
  • Participate in annual salary surveys. Analyze both formal and informal compensation surveys.   Continually review and adjust survey matches to ensure the best match to the market.
  • Monitor trends in the competitive market and ensure programs continue to align with best practices and support the attraction, motivation and retention of qualified talent.
  • Evaluate geographic and benchmark market information on an annual basis. Make preliminary recommendations on adjustments to salary ranges, as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of approved organization compensation plans, processes, and communication tools.
  • Develop cost estimates regarding the financial impact of compensation programs and actions.
  • Develop, implement and maintain job title/job catalog structure for the company. Collaborate with HRIS to update and maintain the HRIS system with job title structures.
  • Support management with training to various stakeholders including employees, supervisors, and managers on compensation topics and procedures.
  • Respond to requests and participate in projects relating to compensation as well as functions outside the scope of the compensation area.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related area
  • Minimum of 5 years related compensation experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
