What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
International Women's Day is a time to celebrate achievements and recognize the women of our generation. It is also a time where we share the stage with female leaders globally and honor them for their contributions and success.
Why did you choose Tenable and the cyber industry?
I have been working in the cyber industry for many years and it is always ever-changing. Technology advancements and threats are constantly occurring in the world we live in and cyber-security is an industry that does not stand still. Tenable continues to excite me as we play an important role in how organisations are protected from threat.
Tenable attracted me for many reasons as well as being at the forefront in the industry with reputable leadership. Although Tenable is now a growing global company, it still has that 'start up' feel to it which I like. I wanted to be able to join a company where I could help shape and support a great culture and build the brand locally.
What makes you proud to be a member or supporter of Women@Tenable?
I look upon my network, peers, and former colleagues. I am so proud to have worked with amazing women in the cyber and tech industry.
The stand out moments where women have overcome obstacles and achieved deserving recognition makes me so proud and I am glad I have been able to cheer them on. In an industry that has been predominantly male dominated, I have experienced first-hand how this ratio is changing and the work Tenable has done well with in this area. There is plenty more work to do, but we are certainly making great traction.
What’s your #1 piece of advice for women working in tech?
Create great relationships. I have worked alongside amazing leaders, both male and female, who have trusted me, given me air cover, and have had my back. Building relationships and gaining confidence can take time, but it is worth it. My experience of taking the time to build relationships has helped me grow as a female in the tech industry. I learned to not be overly cautious and to give my opinion, and keep an open mind on others' perspectives. Knowing I am in a trusted circle with people who have mutual respect for one another encourages me.
Tell us about a woman who inspires you and what you’ve learned from her (can be personal, public, current, or historical).
I admire so many women in my life, work related and personal. One person that continues to stand out for me is a mentor of mine. She strives with everything she does to be the best and as well as professionally. She is very well respected with solid credibility due to her hard work and dedication. She is also a great coach and guide to the things I may find challenging, but never gives me the 'right answer' or the way she would do something. She is a very solid sounding board that always gives her time to people.
