Last week, Bridget Paradise, Chief People Officer, and Jennifer Johnson, Chief Marketing Officer, hosted the first Women@Tenable lunch in the United Kingdom. The group got together at the Danesfield House in Marlow, which was a picturesque setting to exchange conversation.
One of the main topics that was discussed was the importance of establishing a clear mentor in the early stages of a career. Jennifer shared the impact her mentor had on her and how it shaped her path prior to her joining Tenable. She asked those at the lunch to raise their hand if they felt like they had someone in their office environment or outside of the workplace that they could turn to for professional advice and many felt they did not at this point in time.
Dulcie McLerie, Public Relations manager of Tenable in the UK, expressed her sentiments on establishing a concrete mentor from someone who was not even involved with Tenable, but had a similar background to hers in the tech industry. “She is someone with whom I can gut check, ask for advice, and who is just there when I need a sounding board”, McLerie said.
She goes to add onto Jennifer's point, “If you don’t have a similar person in your life: go find your own trusted advisor, speak with your manager if you need help identifying someone, or even consider taking on that role of mentoring yourself.”
Here at Tenable, we believe in building those around us, no matter the stage in their career. We work together and win together, but most importantly we aim to create an environment that supports one another’s visions and values. A career at Tenable means striving to be a career destination where employees from all backgrounds are welcome and empowered, are treated with fairness and respect, can make a difference, and have the opportunity to grow.
Thanks to all who were able to partake in this Women@Tenable event and participate in this important discussion!
