Tenable's Senior Director of Engineering featured in Forbes
In honor of Cybersecurity Awareness month, Forbes Magazine is bringing awareness to not only the shortage of cybersecurity professionals, but specifically the shortage of female cybersecurity professionals. Our Senior Director of Engineering, Rose Elliott, is featured in the article. She shares her story of launching her career in cybersecurity and even gets candid about the challenges she's faced being a women in the field.
"Throughout my career I’ve noticed that women have to push a little harder for opportunities and recognition," says Elliott. "Part of the reason behind this is that people, consciously or not, tend to hire and promote people who are like them. Women shouldn’t feel intimidated, but that’s often their reality in the industry."
Rose continues in the article to share ways that women can break into the industry and set themselves up for success.
"Reach out to someone who is in the industry, ideally a thought leader, and seek out mentorship," says Elliott. "I’ve been extremely lucky to have mentors, both male and female, who provide guidance, answer questions and point me in the right direction."
Tenable is proud to be an organization that continues to be at the forefront of hiring diverse talent in leadership opportunities. To read the full article including other stories of women breaking the gender barriers in cybersecurity, click here.
