Thanksgiving is a chance to reconnect with the people that mean the most. Everyone is constantly on the go and their schedules are full. I look forward to a day dedicated to slowing down, reflecting and being grateful. Then again, nothing forces you to slow down more than a well earned Thanksgiving food coma.
Each Thanksgiving I aim to be either the official roll watcher or the food taste tester. There’s a little bit of pressure on the roll watcher. Burning the homemade rolls is sinful and almost unforgivable. I’ll also be happy to be the juice tester. We can’t help but “Jamaicanize” a holiday a little bit, so we incorporate things like guava, mango or sorrel juice. Otherwise we stick to a pretty traditional menu.
No matter where I celebrate Thanksgiving or who I celebrate with I always aim to enjoy the quality time that I spend with family and friends. That is what matters.
